Course Duration 70 hours
The candidate must:
· be 21 years of age
· have proficiency in medical first aid certificate.
· serve at sea for at least 18 months
Assessment Formal Practical assessment of skills with
the questioning to determine underpinning
knowledge.
Teaching Method Theory sessions (50 hrs)
Practical exercises (20 hrs)
Candidates to be attended in hospital for
practical part of course

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is for seafarers designed to take charge of medical care on board ship and for those requiring certificates of competency.
On completion the seafarer will have sufficient knowledge of medical stores and equipment on board to be able:
· diagnose medical problem on board
· provide medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board
· participate in co-ordinate schemes for medical assistance to ships
